Secto Rally Finland receives inaugural UN Tourism–FIA sustainability award
The annual WRC fixture in Jyväskylä has been officially recognized for its commitment to sustainable development, earning the first-ever UN Tourism–FIA Award for Excellence in Sustainable Sports Tourism. The accolade honors events that successfully integrate sporting action with environmental stewardship, economic responsibility, and long-term legacy planning.
Secto Rally Finland has established itself as a sustainability leader, having secured the FIA’s highest three-star environmental accreditation in 2017. Current efforts include progress toward ISO 20121 certification, the implementation of circular economy solutions, and the hosting of the 'Spark the Future' mobility forum. The event’s proactive approach is supported by the WRC Promoter’s 'Beyond Rally' programme, which encourages collaboration among stakeholders to foster innovation across the sport.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised the rally's leadership, noting the importance of setting new benchmarks for the industry as motorsport continues to grow globally. Meanwhile, organizers at AKK Sports attributed the achievement to a collective effort involving local partners, the City of Jyväskylä, and Secto Automotive. The event is now preparing for its 75th anniversary celebrations, which are scheduled for 2026.
