Shane van Gisbergen claims repeat victory at Sonoma

Shane van Gisbergen successfully defended his crown at the Toyota/Save Mart 350, securing his second consecutive Cup Series victory at Sonoma Raceway. The Trackhouse Racing driver led 74 of the 110 laps, though he faced immense pressure during the closing stages as his car's handling faded. Despite a late-race surge from Chase Briscoe, the New Zealander maintained his lead to finish 0.357 seconds ahead at the line.

Briscoe remained in contention for the win until a minor error in Turn 1 with four laps remaining cost him critical momentum. While he managed to close the gap to within a foot of van Gisbergen’s rear bumper by the final turn, he was unable to execute a pass. The victory marks van Gisbergen’s eighth career Cup Series win, placing him alongside NASCAR legend Tony Stewart for road-course victories.

Pole-sitter Ty Gibbs dominated the opening two stages of the race before ultimately finishing third. Elsewhere, the event served as the opening round of the In-Season Challenge, which saw several shakeups as drivers battled for tournament progression. Notably, series points leader Denny Hamlin maintained his narrow advantage over Tyler Reddick, despite a mid-race spin.
