Solberg builds commanding lead at Rallye Monte-Carlo

Oliver Solberg established a significant cushion on the first full day of competition at Rallye Monte-Carlo, finishing nine stages with a lead of over one minute. Despite encountering a front-left puncture early in the day, the Toyota driver responded with multiple stage wins to maintain his advantage against a challenging field of veterans.

The battle for the remaining podium positions intensified throughout Friday as Elfyn Evans and Sébastien Ogier traded times across the changing surfaces of snow, slush, and mud. While Evans held the second spot throughout the day, a late surge from Ogier reduced the gap to 6.5 seconds heading into Saturday's transition toward Monaco.

Elsewhere in the field, Adrien Fourmaux maintained fourth place despite persistent electronic complications with his Hyundai. Team-mate Thierry Neuville faced significant difficulties, losing over three minutes after sliding into a ditch on the final stage of the day, which allowed the rest of the pack to regroup as the rally prepares to move toward the Principality.
