Solberg secures podium finish at Rally Portugal

Oliver Solberg returned to the WRC podium at Rally Portugal, claiming second place in what served as the season’s first pure gravel event. The Toyota driver navigated fluctuating weather throughout the weekend, briefly holding the lead twice despite battling mechanical setbacks and tire punctures on Saturday and Sunday.

Following a series of challenging outings in Kenya, Croatia, and the Canary Islands, the result marks a significant mental boost for the 24-year-old. While admitting he did not feel at his peak pace, Solberg delivered a standout performance on Stage 14, where he gained nearly 20 seconds on Sébastien Ogier in wet conditions to reclaim the lead temporarily.

By securing second behind Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville, Solberg has elevated himself to third in the overall championship standings. He sits 31 points adrift of teammate and series leader Elfyn Evans, marking a successful recovery after a string of difficult rally results.
