Solberg surges into the lead at Rally Portugal

Oliver Solberg navigated a challenging, rain-affected morning in Portugal to take the lead of the rally. Entering the final morning test trailing overnight leader Sébastien Ogier by 18.6 seconds, Solberg utilized superior grip management to secure the stage win by 7.2 seconds. This performance allowed him to bypass a tight group of rivals, establishing a narrow 0.5-second buffer heading into the afternoon.

Sébastien Ogier, who had controlled the morning's early stages by extending his lead over Thierry Neuville, found himself unable to match Solberg's pace on the mixed-surface test of Paredes. Neuville remains in contention in third place, trailing the leader by 2.6 seconds, while Sami Pajari holds fourth. Despite the intensity of the rain and the technical difficulty of the stages, Adrien Fourmaux and Takamoto Katsuta also showed improved form as the field prepares for the afternoon loop.

Reflecting on his rapid pace, Solberg admitted the conditions were difficult but suited his driving style. Ogier, visibly surprised by the time loss, acknowledged the impressive nature of the drive while the field braces for the second pass of these gravel stages. The competition remains tight as the crews look toward the final stages of the day.
