Sonoma Raceway prepares for the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series entry
The NASCAR Cup Series is staying in California, moving from the intensity of Naval Base Coronado to the technical challenge of Sonoma Raceway this Sunday. It is the 18th points-paying event of the 2026 season, and it officially marks the opening leg of the 2026 In-Season Challenge.
All eyes will be on Shane van Gisbergen, who is the defending winner at this 1.99-mile venue. After a difficult 38th-place finish at Naval Base Coronado, he returns to the seat of the No. 97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet looking to regain his rhythm and secure his second victory of the year.
There are 36 cars confirmed for the weekend. The race is set for a 3:30 p.m. ET start, with coverage available on TNT Sports, HBO Max, PRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
