Technical infractions hit Hendrick and Live Fast at Pocono

NASCAR officials have hammered the Nos. 5 and 78 Chevrolets after both machines failed pre-race inspection twice at Pocono Raceway. This is a tough blow; both teams now lose their pit selection for Sunday’s Great American Getaway 400. To make matters worse, a crew member from each squad has been ejected for the remainder of the weekend.

The official casualties are Jesse Saunders, car chief for the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, and Chris Stanley, engineer for the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet. Kyle Larson, currently sixth in the Cup Series standings, drives the No. 5, while Daniel Dye is set for his second career premier-series start in the No. 78.

It was a busy day for the officials, as the Nos. 6, 23, and 60 cars—driven by Brad Keselowski, Bubba Wallace, and Ryan Preece, respectively—are also headed to the rear of the field. These cars were flagged for unapproved adjustments, ensuring a shuffled grid for Sunday’s race.
