Teemu Suninen targets 2027 top-tier return after WRC2 Portugal win
Teemu Suninen secured his eighth career WRC2 victory at a demanding edition of Rally de Portugal, marking a successful return to gravel competition. Competing in a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, the 32-year-old demonstrated consistent pace alongside co-driver Janni Hussi, ultimately earning the FORUM8 Most Stage Wins Award for their performance.
After a hiatus from the WRC in 2025, Suninen is currently balancing a partial WRC2 program with a full campaign in the European Rally Championship. By proving his competitiveness against a strong field despite limited testing time, the Finnish driver hopes to capture the interest of manufacturers ahead of the upcoming technical regulation changes in 2027.
For Hussi, the result represents a significant career milestone, marking her first win in the category. Following his success in Portugal, Suninen is set to turn his focus immediately to the next round of the European Rally Championship at the BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia.
