The chaos of Detroit awaits after an epic Indy 500

The dust has barely settled on the 110th Indianapolis 500, yet here we are. Felix Rosenqvist, fresh off his stunning victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, heads straight into the fire of the Chevrolet Grand Prix of Detroit presented by Lear. There is no time to breathe; the series moves from the high-speed dream of the oval to the claustrophobic nightmare of a 1.645-mile downtown street circuit.

This place is a beast. With concrete walls closing in on every side and a 3,700-foot straightaway that invites absolute chaos at the braking zone, it is a massive shift from the "500." Last year, we saw five full-course yellows and eight cars tangled up in cautions. It’s tight, it’s physical, and it’s spectacular.

Alex Palou arrives with a 37-point lead in the standings, though the order behind him has shifted with David Malukas moving into second and Kyle Kirkwood holding third. Palou is clearly the man to beat, yet he knows as well as anyone how quickly things can turn here; he was knocked into a barrier by Malukas in last year’s race. With 11 events remaining, the fight for the Astor Challenge Cup is now very, very real.
