Theophile Nael is untouchable in Monte Carlo
Theophile Nael is making this look far too easy. The Campos Racing driver maintained his 100% qualifying record this season by snatching pole in Monte Carlo with a 1m 24.471s lap. It was a beautiful display of precision on one of the most unforgiving tracks on the calendar.
The session was a proper fight, especially when Nael went head-to-head with TRIDENT and Audi Development Driver Freddie Slater during the Group B segment. The two were trading top spots until Slater clipped the wall near Portier, damaging his front wing. Even after a stunning middle sector, Slater couldn't claw back the time, leaving the door wide open for Nael to drop one final improvement and secure the front.
Badoer put in a massive shift for Rodin Motorsport, coming within two-tenths of the Frenchman's time to earn a spot on the front row. We’ll see Slater starting third, ahead of championship leader Ugo Ugochukwu in fourth. I have to say, watching Ernesto Rivera finish third in Group B to take fifth on the grid for his F3 debut—after missing the Melbourne round through injury—was quite a statement.
