Three up, three down: the aftermath of Pocono

Denny Hamlin’s mastery at Pocono Raceway shows no signs of slowing down. With his third consecutive victory at the "Tricky Triangle," Hamlin has turned up the heat on the Cup Series standings, cutting Tyler Reddick’s lead down to just 19 points. The gap between them was once as high as 129, and now the pressure is truly mounting as the field prepares for the inaugural street-course event in San Diego.

While Hamlin surged, others fought through chaos. Tyler Reddick showed real grit to finish second despite a tough week prior, and William Byron finally found the confidence he needed to secure a third-place finish. Ross Chastain also deserves credit for a smart, strategy-driven run to eighth. On the flip side, Pocono was a disaster for the likes of Ryan Preece, who suffered a heartbreaking fuel shortage on the final lap, and Shane van Gisbergen, who found himself caught in a massive wreck. Joey Logano also saw his momentum vanish in that same Stage 2 crash, ending his day four laps down.

It is a brutal, unforgiving sport. As Logano put it, it was just a "matter of wrong place, wrong time." Now, the circus moves to Naval Base Coronado, where the uncertainty of a new street circuit awaits.
