Tom Kristensen discusses near F1 career and Le Mans success

Tom Kristensen, a celebrated nine-time victor of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, has spoken about a significant career juncture where he was close to entering Formula 1. Despite a childhood aspiration to race in F1, Kristensen achieved unparalleled success in sportscar racing, setting a record at the iconic Le Mans event.

During a discussion on the Beyond The Grid podcast, Kristensen revealed he was presented with a 'risky' offer to join a Formula 1 team in the 1990s. He ultimately declined the opportunity to focus on his sportscar career, a path that would lead to his legendary status as 'Mr Le Mans'.

Kristensen, whose early career trajectory has been compared to that of seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, also recounted an experience driving a modern F1 car. He shared insights into how his diverse motorsport background, including competing in various types of cars, contributed to his development as a more versatile and accomplished driver.
