Tymek Abramowski claims WRC3 lead in late Rally Islas Canarias surge
Tymek Abramowski overhauled Gil Membrado to take the lead of the WRC3 standings during the final stage of Saturday's action at Rally Islas Canarias. Driving a Ford Fiesta Rally3, Abramowski capitalized on a power loss experienced by Membrado approximately 5km into the 28.9km test, allowing the 19-year-old to turn a deficit into a 2.6-second advantage.
The pair had been engaged in a tight battle throughout Saturday, following the cancellation of the morning's opening stage due to an earlier incident on the route. Membrado had held the top spot since Friday morning, but the technical trouble in the closing kilometers of the day proved decisive.
Elsewhere in the field, Ghjuvanni Rossi remains in a comfortable third position, distancing himself from Nicolas Otto. Otto, who lost significant time in a roll on Friday evening, currently sits ahead of Santiago Pérez, Raúl Hernández, and WRC3 newcomer Dean Mascarenhas in the overall classification.
