Verstappen and Red Bull face an uphill battle in Barcelona

It was a tough Friday in Barcelona for Max Verstappen, who finished fourth in Free Practice 1 and sixth in the second session. The four-time World Champion was blunt about the state of his Red Bull, noting a lack of grip across high, medium, and low-speed corners. "The whole day [we were] just lacking grip and feeling with the car and balance," Verstappen said, describing the sensation as "drifting around" regardless of the tyre compound used.

He was quick to dismiss any hopes of a front-row start for Saturday, admitting the team has significant work to do to rectify their balance issues. Paul Monaghan, Head of Car Engineering at Red Bull, acknowledged the obvious weaknesses while noting that the squad has made progress since the challenge at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan. While Monaghan emphasized that the team must focus on extracting the best from their own car, the current reality remains a struggle for pace against their opposition.
