Williams performance at the Austrian Grand Prix deemed not good enough by Sainz

It was a weekend to forget for Williams at the Red Bull Ring. Both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon were stuck in the mud from the start, failing to make it past Q1 on Saturday. By the time Sunday rolled around, they were staring at a P17 and P18 start, leaving them nowhere near the points and fighting against the reality of a brutal season.

Sainz’s Sunday turned into a disaster on lap 23 of 71. After finally feeling like the car had some life in it, he lost all power exiting the final corner. The Spaniard was blunt about the state of the team, noting that despite some late adjustments, the overall package is simply not good enough. Having gone three Grands Prix without a points finish, he is looking toward upcoming upgrades at Silverstone to change the tide.

Alex Albon’s race was equally grim, finishing P17 but two laps down. His assessment was as straightforward as it gets: there was simply no pace. While the team remains hopeful that a small package update will bring them closer to the midfield pack, the reality in Spielberg was a stark reminder of the work they still have ahead of them.
