Wolff believes Hamilton is a genuine title threat

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff believes Lewis Hamilton is "absolutely" a contender for this season's World Championship. Hamilton secured his first Grand Prix victory for Ferrari last weekend at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, marking the first time a driver has beaten Mercedes on a Sunday this year.

Wolff cited Hamilton's aggressive approach, stating, "If he smells blood, he goes." He recalled instances from their time together at Mercedes where Hamilton's momentum became unstoppable once he hit his stride. The 41-point gap in the standings, with a significant number of points still available, means the championship remains wide open, according to Wolff.

Hamilton has achieved podium finishes in his last three Grands Prix, a stark contrast to his start with Ferrari where he did not reach the rostrum in his first 24 attempts. Wolff suggested that the upcoming 2026 regulations might suit Hamilton's driving style, and that personal happiness, potentially influenced by his relationship with Kim Kardashian, could also be contributing to his strong performance.
