Here is the thing about building a racing team from the ground up: patience is usually the first casualty. Not so at Prestige Auto Racing, led by Daniel Herrero, which just locked in José Manuel Urcera to continue driving for the team next year in 2027. The squad, which receives its technical preparation from Maquin Parts, is taking the long view, and Urcera couldn't be happier about it.
That doesn't mean the hunger to win has taken a back seat. As Urcera pointed out, the competitive fire still burns hot, but removing the suffocating pressure of an immediate axe makes a massive difference.
Yet on the track, the machine itself is giving them headaches. This season marks the glorious return of the brand to Turismo Carretera for the first time since 1937, but the CLE 53 AMG has been an absolute enigma. Urcera showed blistering pace early on—topping practice sessions at Posadas (the debut weekend for this specific chassis) and Paraná—only for the performance to swing wildly without warning.
Those fluctuations bit hard recently. Following a seventh-place finish in Paraná, the results took a dive, culminating in a difficult outing at San Luis where he struggled badly and became one of the lowest scorers among the qualified drivers, sinking as low as 22nd in subsequent runs. Even so, he remains inside the Copa de Oro, sitting 47 points behind leader Mariano Werner with four rounds remaining.
With races at San Nicolás, Rosario, Río Cuarto, and La Plata left on the calendar, the 2022 champion refuses to look defeated. “Estoy enfocados en ser muy competitivo acá en estas cuatro carreras que quedan,” Urcera said, fully locked in on hunting down enough points to fight for another title.
