A surprise turn of pace at Road America
It is rarely a dull moment when the NTT INDYCAR SERIES arrives at a classic like Road America. Ahead of the XPEL Grand Prix, five teams and 13 drivers gathered on the 4.014-mile circuit for a private test that delivered a shock result at the top of the order.
Santino Ferrucci set the pace in the No. 14 Homes For Our Troops Chevrolet, stopping the clock at 1 minute, 45.0611 seconds. He was followed by Nolan Siegel, who put his No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet in second with a 1:45.2064. That Chevrolet power looked formidable, as the manufacturer locked out the top four spots, a much-needed boost following recent mechanical engine issues.
Elsewhere, Christian Lundgaard proved consistent in his No. 7 Chevrolet for Arrow McLaren, placing third at 1:45.2310, while Christian Rasmussen clocked 1:45.3079 to finish fourth in his No. 21 Splenda Chevrolet for ECR. It was a more difficult day for others, with Will Power struggling for pace in his No. 26 TWG AI Honda, finishing ninth and over six-tenths off the lead. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing also found themselves in the lower half of the charts, with Graham Rahal, Louis Foster, and Mick Schumacher ending the day in 10th, 12th, and 13th respectively.
