What a machine David Almansa is. The Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider grabbed the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Great Britain Moto3 win after an absolute stunner of a race that went right down to the wire. Launching from the second row, the #22 shot off the line to take charge early, leaving a fierce battle to rage right behind him all the way to the checkered flag.
Alvaro Carpe fought through to take second place for Red Bull KTM Ajo, a crucial result that makes him the closest chaser in the title fight now that Maximo Quiles of the CFMoto Valresa Aspar Team was sidelined from Sunday. The podium was rounded out by Valentin Perrone, who brought his Red Bull KTM Tech3 machine home in third.
Early doors saw a top four of Almansa, Carpe, Brian Uriarte of Red Bull KTM Ajo, and Adrian Fernandez representing Leopard Racing carve out some breathing room ahead of the front row. That front row featured Adrian Cruces from CIP Green Power, home hero and polesitter Scott Ogden, and Perrone. But the race soon morphed into a wild freight train before a multiple-rider incident struck. Cruces crashed out of the running, and shortly after, Ogden's fairytale at home ended when the Brit slid out at Club corner.
That left a frantic top six fight for the podium, welcoming Joel Esteban of LEVEL UP – MTA into the mix. Almansa held firm at the front, building a four tenths cushion that kept him safe as the final tour of Silverstone got underway. Behind him, Fernandez and Uriarte were trading blows until a sudden last lap crash at Turn 6 sent Sachsenring winner Uriarte sliding out of third. Into the final sector, Fernandez suffered a moment of his own, getting mugged by Carpe and then Perrone to cross the line fourth.
Behind Fernandez, Esteban completed the top five, while Joel Kelso led the second group for GRYD Racing. That group also included Rico Salmela for Red Bull KTM Tech3, home hero Eddie O’Shea taking eighth for GRYD Racing, Veda Pratama for Honda Team Asia, and Matteo Bertelle for LEVEL UP – MTA rounding out the top ten. Uriarte managed to remount and cross the line in nineteenth place.
