Cadillac Whelen storms to victory at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen
The No. 31 Cadillac Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R was an absolute beast at Watkins Glen International. In a race fractured by nine full-course cautions, the trio of Jack Aitken, Earl Bamber, and Frederik Vesti put on a clinic. They led 143 of the 182 laps, proving that authority behind the wheel is still the best way to win. It wasn't just a race victory; they secured the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup and the IMSA Michelin Sustainability in Racing Award, marking a truly massive day for the team.
The final pit strategy was the decider. By pitting before the second-to-last caution, they managed to leapfrog the No. 93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb Agajanian entry. Nick Yelloly kept his No. 93 Acura in second, holding off the No. 5 JDC-Miller MotorSports Porsche 963 of Laurin Heinrich. Meanwhile, in LMP2, the No. 99 AO Racing ORECA LMP2 07 driven by Dane Cameron, PJ Hyett, and Jonny Edgar claimed their first win of the year after a tense battle with the No. 04 CrowdStrike Racing by APR machine.
GT racing was equally chaotic, forcing teams to gamble on fuel as the finish approached. In GTD PRO, the No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat took the win from pole. Over in GTD, it was the No. 912 Manthey 1st Phorm Porsche 911 GT3 R of Ryan Hardwick, Riccardo Pera, and Richard Lietz that stood on the top step. It was a wild day of endurance racing where the strategy had to be as sharp as the driving.
