Caden Kvapil (brother of Carson) took the prestigious late model victory, but the finish of the race—often dubbed the Daytona 500 of late model stock car racing—unleashed scenes of absolute madness that spilled off the track and into the infield.
At the white flag, the battle for the lead boiled over into a frantic three-wide dash between Treyten Lapcevich in the middle, Corey Heim on the inside, and Kvapil. Entering Turn 1, Heim made contact with the rear of Lapcevich's machine, turning him sideways and handing Kvapil a clear path to the win. The contact did not stop at the checkered flag, with Heim and Lapcevich banging doors all the way around the circuit as Heim secured second and Lapcevich settled for third. The situation turned even wilder moments later when further contact sent Heim's car temporarily airborne, climbing over the door and across the hood of Lapcevich's car in a display of major damage that occurred entirely after the race had concluded.
That was only the prelude to a physical altercation near the famous hot dog shack inside the Martinsville infield. Heim, who was wearing his 23XI Racing firesuit, found himself cornered by members of Lapcevich’s Chad Bryant Racing team. Lapcevich had previously attempted to confront Heim on pit road before team owner Chad Bryant intervened, but a larger confrontation soon materialized near the concession stand beneath a menu sign reading ‘A Half Mile of Mayhem’.
Video footage shows Heim attempting to back away and de-escalate the situation as multiple individuals closed in on him. Team owner Chad Bryant immediately started swinging, and as Heim's back was pinned against the hot dog stand, another individual grabbed him. Heim was hit or punched multiple times while desperately trying to cover his head, until a police officer quickly stepped in and escorted him away from the scene.
The flashpoint is particularly striking given the past history between the parties involved. Heim actually shared a decent relationship with Chad Bryant before this event, having made his ARCA debut and starting 13 ARCA races for Bryant during the 2019 season. Meanwhile, Heim is set to step up to a full-time seat in the 2027 NASCAR Cup season with the team co-owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, adding to an impressive resume that includes part-time Cup wins at Indianapolis for the Brickyard 400 and the inaugural San Diego Street Course earlier this year, alongside his status as the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion.
