Evans commands the championship lead as his Jaguar era nears its end

Mitch Evans is on an absolute tear. The Jaguar TCS Racing man now commands a 19-point lead over Nissan’s Oliver Rowland, a testament to a wild start where he secured five podiums across the first seven races. It is a stunning turnaround from a year ago when he finished with only 78 points. With 128 points already on the board and seven rounds remaining, he looks entirely at home at the front.

Sunday was not straightforward, though. An early six-minute ATTACK MODE helped him hunt from seventh on the grid, but it left him exposed later on. He fought to a fourth-place finish, adding 18 vital points to his tally. As Evans noted, “To take the championship lead is a great feeling, although there’s still a long way to go.”

There is a bittersweet edge to this performance. Evans has been the face of the British manufacturer’s project since Season 3, dragging them from the midfield into genuine title contention. Yet, the Drivers' World Championship remains the one thing missing from his résumé. With the news that he and Jaguar will part ways at the end of this season, this campaign feels like his final, desperate bid to secure the crown.
