Formula E returns to Sanya after seven years
It has been a seven-year wait, but Formula E is finally back on the Chinese island of Sanya. With only eight drivers on the grid having experienced this circuit before, we are in for a wild ride for Round 11 of the 2025/26 season. The track remains a beast, featuring fast sections and tight hairpins, though the layout has seen subtle tweaks since our last visit in 2019, including a modified run through the first three corners.
On-track action kicks off with Free Practice 1 on Friday 19 June at 16:30 local time. Race day Saturday, 20 June, begins with a 40-minute Free Practice 2 session at 08:30, followed by qualifying at 10:40. The 2026 Lianxin Sanya E-Prix itself is scheduled to start at 15:05, consisting of 37 laps of intense racing. This season has been nothing short of insane. We have seen Jake Dennis snap a two-year winless streak for Andretti and Nick Cassidy deliver a stunning first single-seater win for Citroën Racing. From Mitch Evans making history as the all-time wins leader for Jaguar to the relentless Antonio Felix da Costa finding his form with two wins in Madrid, the competition is fierce. Even Mahindra Racing joined the party, with Nyck de Vries ending their GEN3 drought in Monaco. With the championship fight wide open, Sanya is ready to test who really has the pace.
