General Motors shines with a double win in Detroit
It was an absolute masterclass for General Motors on their home turf. With the Renaissance Center looming over the 1.645-mile Detroit Street Circuit, the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R of Jack Aitken and Earl Bamber put on a display of total control in the GTP class. They didn't just win; they dominated the 100-minute race to claim the top spot overall.
Not to be outdone, Chevrolet tasted glory in the GTD PRO class. Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims steered their No. 3 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Corvette Z06 GT3.R to a brilliant victory. It was a beautiful result, especially considering the chaos that unfolded behind them in the final moments of the race. While the first 80 minutes were relatively calm, the late-race cautions turned the field into a scrap, but Garcia held firm to secure his 32nd IMSA victory.
The podium in the GTP class saw the No. 25 BMW M Team WRT BMW M Hybrid V8 and the No. 10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac V-Series.R join the winners. Meanwhile, the GTD PRO class saw the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini Temerario GT3 take second with Andrea Caldarelli and Sandy Mitchell, followed by the No. 65 Ford Mustang GT3 of Christopher Mies and Frederic Vervisch. With these results, Aitken moves into the GTP championship lead, proving just how vital this performance was for the Cadillac squad.
