Here is the thing about Friday at Silverstone: Daniel Holgado simply flew. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider locked down P1 and shattered the all-time Moto2 lap record in stunning fashion, dropping a 2:01.815 to signal his intent at the British GP. That machine was on rails, and the #96 left everyone else scrambling to catch up.
Senna Agius of Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP gave it a serious go, ending the day just 0.095s shy of the top spot. Agius' teammate Manuel Gonzalez completed the top three, sitting two tenths away from Holgado by the end of play. Behind them, Alex Escrig put in a brilliant shift for the KLINT Racing Team to grab P4, slotting in one place ahead of Izan Guevara.
That BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 bike handled by Guevara made him the leading Boscoscuro rider on Friday. It is a vital position for the rider sitting second in the title race, keeping him within touching distance of Gonzalez as they stare down qualifying day. Meanwhile, a trio of recently injured riders—Barry Baltus representing REDS Fantic Racing, Daniel Muñoz of Italtrans Racing Team, and Mario Aji for Idemitsu Honda Team Asia—punched above expectations to lock down P6, P7, and P8 respectively.
Unfortunately, the day brought the exact opposite for David Alonso. The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider never found his rhythm in Practice and slumped all the way down to P22. The newly announced 2027 HRC MotoGP rider now has to fight through Q1 to salvage his weekend.
While Alonso has work to do, his closest championship rivals booked their tickets straight into Q2. Celestino Vietti of GT Trevisan SpeedRS Team claimed ninth, and Ivan Ortola grabbed tenth for QJMOTOR – Biolec – MSI. Ortola managed to hold onto that crucial top 14 place even after suffering a crash at Stowe corner near the end of the session. Moto2 qualifying kicks off at 14:40 local time (UTC +1) on Saturday afternoon.
