Winner in Austria, winner in Japan, and now the all-time lap record holder in Moto2. That is the incredible run Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) is on right now, and he certainly laid down the gauntlet during the opening day of action at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia.
The rider sitting second in the title chase uncorked a stunning 1:32.337 during Practice to take the top spot. He left everyone else trailing, landing 0.231s quicker than second-fastest Alex Escrig (KLINT Racing Team).
Third place went to Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team). That impressive run came together despite the #96 encountering a frustrating technical issue in the closing stages of Friday's running.
It was not a smooth session by any stretch, as Moto2 Practice had to be red-flagged on two separate occasions. First, Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) lost his visor on his out-lap right at the start of the session. Then, the red flags waved a second time when connectivity issues hit parts of the circuit with just over 12 minutes left on the clock.
When the track finally settled, World Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez finished the session in P4, landing 0.259s adrift of his title rival Guevara. Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) completed the top five.
Behind the Australian, two more 2026 race winners pushed into the top seven on Friday. Alonso Lopez (ITALJET Gresini Moto2) secured sixth place, while Filip Salač (OnlyFans American Racing Team) grabbed seventh fastest. Both Lopez and Holgado suffered technical issues near the end of the session.
Despite suffering a crash at Turn 11, Ayumu Sasaki (Momoven Idrofoglia RW Racing Team) managed to earn P8 and sail straight into Q2. Rounding out the top ten were Daniel Muñoz (Italtrans Racing Team) in P9 and David Alonso (CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team) in P10 respectively.
