What a turnaround. Jeremy Alcoba has turned a difficult sophomore slump into a prized 2027 seat with the defending Teams' Champion AS BLU CRU Racing Team after an absolutely meteoric finish to the 2026 FIM Supersport World Championship campaign.
Things did not look so bright in the first half of the year. Growing pains plagued the Spanish rider early on, as he failed to manage a finish better than P8 until Round 4 at Balaton Park and did not see the rostrum until Round 8 at Donington Park. But then, right after the news dropped that he would not be continuing with his previous team—which is bringing in Jaume Masia for 2027—something clicked for the machine on track.
Jeremy's performances over the final three rounds of the 2026 season were hugely impressive,
He struck gold at Cremona with pole position and back-to-back wins, delivering his best-ever WorldSSP round. That performance opened the floodgates. Alcoba finished on the podium in the final six races of the season, picking up four victories along the way and scoring more points than any other rider from Cremona to the final round at Jerez. That wild charge sent him soaring up the Championship standings from P8 all the way to third as the season wrapped up.
It is a remarkable trajectory for a rider who announced himself with a title-winning campaign in what is now known as the Moto3 Junior World Championship in 2019. After two seasons in Moto3 and three in Moto2, he jumped to the paddock in 2025, finding his footing late with a maiden podium at Estoril and another rostrum appearance in Race 1 of the Jerez finale. Now, he jumps to a squad fresh off propelling Albert Arenas to a Riders' Championship in his rookie WorldSSP season alongside a solid sophomore campaign from teammate Aldi Mahendra. While Alcoba has previously piloted Yamaha blue in Moto2 with the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team, this winter testing window will give him his first taste of the Yamaha R9.
"I am very excited to join Yamaha for 2027 after what really has been two difficult seasons," Alcoba said. "I expected more joining WorldSSP and feel that only in the last few rounds have I been able to show what I am capable of! To get the chance to ride the bike that has won the Championship for the last two seasons is a huge opportunity for me. If you want to fight for the title, you need the best team and the best bike, and I believe that is what I am doing here. I believe in myself, I believe in this team, and I believe in Yamaha, so I am really happy about this opportunity. The team has just won the World Championship, so the goal is clear for 2027 – to help them retain it!"
Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing Sporting Manager Niccolo Canepa is equally thrilled to welcome the in-form rider. "Jeremy's performances over the final three rounds of the 2026 season were hugely impressive," Canepa added. "He scored more points than any other rider between Cremona and Jerez, and with four victories from the final six races, he arrives in exceptional form. That made him an obvious choice for our WorldSSP programme in 2027. The AS BLU CRU Racing Team did a fantastic job throughout the 2026 season, and adding a rider of Jeremy's calibre will make the team even stronger as it looks ahead to 2027. We are excited to get started."
