Johann zarco reflects on heroic aragon return: "i'm really happy to be back"

Piloting his Castrol Honda LCR machine with the #5 on the front, the Frenchman fought his way straight back into the points after an incredible weekend filled with genuine speed and determination. Reflecting on his comeback, he described his points-scoring return simply as "awesome."

The road to this moment began back in May following a heavy Turn 1 crash in Barcelona. That accident left him with a small fracture at the bottom of his fibula alongside ligament injuries. Following his discharge from hospital, he returned to France to begin recovery. He worked closely with a knee specialist, opted against surgery on medical advice, and targeted a September return. But through hard training and sheer grit, September became August, and Aragon became the goal.

Thursday afternoon brought the crucial green light in the paddock to ride on Friday morning. Another check-up followed FP1—where he finished P11—before officials gave him the absolute go-ahead for the remainder of the weekend. That speed was no accident either. He ended Friday P10, secured a direct entry into Q2, and left his crew deeply emotional. "Very nice," Zarco said of his first day back. "From the first laps this morning, I was so happy to see that the lap time was coming, and I was already inside the top 10. It was a good feeling that I wasn’t shocked by the speed of the bike. Aragon is a fast track, and I think I did 340 km/h this morning, but it feels normal." He noted that it had been three months and 10/12 days since the crash, emphasizing that avoiding surgery gave him a massive advantage in keeping up his training.

That pace carried cleanly into Saturday. The #5 qualified on the third row, slotting in 0.821s adrift from pole. Launching from P9, he showed smart racecraft by being cautious at Turn 1 before deploying his strong pace in the shorter Sprint. He battled inside the top 10 throughout the race and crossed the line in P9 to bag a single point, finishing just 1.546s behind P6 finisher of BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP. "A great race," Zarco noted about his Sprint. "I could control the speed, overtake, and score some points – I'm very happy with it. I didn’t attack anyone in the first braking zone, as starting on the left side at Aragon doesn’t help you with braking."
