Logan Sargeant chases home turf glory with Ford at Lone Star Le Mans

Here's the thing about : his bond with the Blue Oval goes back way further than this weekend. As the FIA World Endurance Championship rolls Stateside for round five, the Lone Star Le Mans at (COTA), the American driver is leaning hard into a brand that has literally been part of his entire existence. "My dad’s had a Ford truck since I was born. He still has one today," he shares. "Our whole life, we’ve had Ford cars and trucks – we’ve never not had one – so it almost feels like home to me."

Now, that feeling of home intersects with a proper home crowd in Austin. The Fort Lauderdale native still draws a loyal following from his Formula 1 days (yes, with Williams), and those fans are loving the switch to Ford. Instead of a family pickup, though, he'll be wrestling a different kind of machinery around the track's famous 'Big Red' corner. Following sporadic forays into sportscar racing in the European Le Mans Series and IMSA, he currently handles Proton Competition’s #88 Mustang in the FIA WEC LMGT3 category.

Sharing the cockpit with Italian stablemates and has brought a whole new rhythm. "They both have tons of experience," Logan notes, enjoying a team dynamic that's a sharp contrast to the solitary world of single-seaters. That team game is paying off nicely for the 25-year-old. After a points-scoring debut at Imola back in April, the Florida native helped deliver the squad's best result yet right before the summer break by taking fifth place in the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo. "Fortunately, Brazil was a huge turnaround for us," he says. With the goal for COTA locked on building that progress and hunting a podium, the trajectory is pointing straight up.

Of course, LMGT3 is just the opening chapter of a much bigger story. Earlier this year, the former Williams Driver Academy graduate was announced alongside and 2010 Le Mans overall winner as the initial trio of factory drivers leading Ford Racing’s upcoming Hypercar project—with , , and later rounding out the roster. "It’s a huge privilege for me. I want to go into Hypercar next year as prepared as I can be, and this year in LMGT3 is a big part of that preparation."
