Mario Farnbacher returns to Magnus Racing for Watkins Glen
It is finally happening: Magnus Racing is back on the grid for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. After a strong runner-up result at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, the team is heading to the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen with one goal in mind—to claim the only major victory that has so far eluded them. To get the job done, they have brought back two-time series champion Mario Farnbacher to pilot the No. 44 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo alongside team mainstays John Potter and Spencer Pumpelly.
Farnbacher is no stranger to this team or this track. A winner at Watkins Glen twice before, he brings serious pedigree to the cockpit, including a 2024 victory at this very venue in an Aston Martin. As team owner John Potter noted, Farnbacher is a proven winner, and reuniting this group seems like a calculated move to finally capture that elusive trophy. While Farnbacher has been busy this year in the Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR class with Pegram Racing, he is now shifting his focus back to the big leagues.
There is a real sense of unfinished business here. Spencer Pumpelly and the rest of the crew are clearly motivated by their performance at Daytona, and the squad is leaning heavily on the collective experience of their driver lineup to turn that potential into a win. Official practice kicks off on Friday, June 26, before the race gets underway on Sunday, June 28.
