That, my friends, is how you muscle a Moto2 machine around a circuit. Senna Agius of Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP put together a ridiculously impressive lap of 1:33.718 around Misano to claim his second pole position of the season. It is his first since the season opener in Thailand, and he did it by a very healthy margin too. Absolute mastery of the beast beneath him.
Daniel Holgado of CFMOTO Aspar European Privilege Team looked to have the job done on provisional pole in the closing stages, only for Agius to step in and beat the #96's time by 0.193s. Meanwhile, rookie Angel Piqueras of QJMOTOR – Green Power – MSI wrestled his way onto the front-row start at the very scene of his debut Grand Prix victory in 2024. A brilliant session for the newcomers, but it came with plenty of chaos.
Unfortunately, the main slice of drama involved David Alonso of CFMOTO Aspar European Privilege Team. He simply couldn't avoid Alberto Ferrandez's stricken Boscoscuro-Triumph machine after the rookie highsided on the exit of Turn 10 in the closing stages. With Alonso's first effort already chalked off and neither rider setting a lap time in Q2 following the crash, the Colombian is left to start all the way down from P17.
Further up the order, Daniel Muñoz of Italtrans Racing Team fought his way through Q1 to earn a P4 starting slot. He sits just one spot ahead of World Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez of Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP. It is certainly not the front row ManuGas was hunting for, but far from a total disaster.
Rounding out the fast movers, Collin Veijer of Red Bull KTM Ajo looks in good shape to challenge for a second podium of the season from P6. Tony Arbolino of REDS Fantic Racing is also enjoying a fairly fruitful weekend on home soil, with the Italian starting P7, one place ahead of second in the championship, Izan Guevara of BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2.
The Spaniard will look to inflict more damage to Gonzalez’s 32.5-point championship lead on Sunday, with one row splitting the top two before the lights go out at 12:15 on Sunday.
