Three up, three down: A mid-season check on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES
The NTT INDYCAR SERIES has hit its midpoint, and frankly, the rest of the field is just watching Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing disappear into the distance. With four consecutive poles across wildly different track layouts and three wins in the last six races, Palou has built a 49-point lead. He is hunting a fourth consecutive series title, and honestly, until someone proves otherwise, he is simply the best machine operating in this sport.
It hasn't been all domination, however. Felix Rosenqvist of Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb Agajanian has surged from 14th to eighth in the standings, while Rinus VeeKay is doing heroic work for Juncos Hollinger Racing, climbing to 13th and putting himself just one spot behind the legendary Scott Dixon. For a smaller team, VeeKay’s consistency—including a sixth at Indy and a fourth at World Wide Technology Raceway—is nothing short of stunning.
On the flip side, some heavy hitters are enduring a nightmare stretch. Alexander Rossi of ECR has tumbled to 14th after a brutal run, capped by a 30th-place finish at Indy following a heavy crash in practice. Meanwhile, Will Power of Andretti Global has seen his standings drop from 11th to 17th, and the six-time champion Scott Dixon is currently sitting 12th, marking a rare slump for a driver who has finished fourth or higher in 18 of the last 20 seasons.
