Ticktum and Maloney to serve grid penalties in Shanghai
It is an absolute nightmare for Zane Maloney heading into the Shanghai double-header. The Lola Yamaha ABT driver is staring down a staggering 43-place grid penalty. This massive drop is the result of changing both the gearbox and inverters (MCU) on his machine after qualifying in Sanya, plus an additional three-place drop for speeding under a Red Flag. Because the grid can't physically accommodate such a penalty, he will be forced to serve a 10-second stop-go penalty at the start of the Shanghai E-Prix.
Dan Ticktum also finds himself in hot water. The CUPRA KIRO driver was caught failing to reduce his speed to 50 km/h immediately after rejoining the track from an incident during that same Sanya Red Flag period—taking approximately 14 seconds to hit the required speed. Consequently, Ticktum has been slapped with a three-place grid drop for Round 12 at the Shanghai International Circuit.
