The Z06 GT3.R machine is getting a major upgrade. As Motorsport.com Italia reports, Corvette Racing is putting the final touches on an EVO kit designed to roll out to Z06 GT3 cars across the globe ahead of the 2027 season. Ever since the machine hit the track in the FIA WEC, IMSA, and various GT World Challenge series, the American manufacturer has been studying how to refine it.
Work on this comprehensive update actually started from the very beginning of the program. Official factory drivers, including Nicky Catsburg and Antonio Garcia, have put the car through testing sessions, and approval is expected very soon ahead of a January debut at Daytona.
General Motors brand manager Andrea Hidalgo explained that the primary focus of the EVO package is electronics. The update brings engine enhancements, minor durability improvements, new controllers, and new wiring throughout the car. That means a reduced calculation load for the systems, allowing teams to dive deeper into control system development. Alongside a wind tunnel trip for minor aerodynamic tweaks and some engine updates, the whole package is designed to improve overall management and drivability without giving customers anything to worry about.
The homologation process takes about a year from the initial submission to receiving the stamped FIA document, and deliveries will begin in autumn so teams can prepare. While the update hits the calendar at Daytona, not every team will use it immediately since it is a relatively small modification and not strictly mandatory for everyone. Some customers will purchase new cars, while many others will opt to install the kit onto their existing machines.
On top of the global EVO package, a dedicated kit is coming for the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Tackling the Green Hell requires specific demands, meaning a specialized anti-lift system is required to keep the front of the car from lifting under acceleration. Hidalgo noted that while testing has taken place at General Motors' test track rather than a real circuit, and a couple of customer teams have already inquired, formal entries for the 24-hour race remain unconfirmed as teams finalize their plans for next year.
