Here's the thing about Dino Beganovic: when he finds momentum, he is an absolute force on track. The Swede delivered a stunning drive to claim his second victory of the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season, converting a third-place grid spot into a Baku Sprint win for DAMS Lucas Oil.
Right from the start, the machine was alive. Beganovic launched off the line and immediately muscled his way past Laurens van Hoepen on the opening lap to grab second place. With the runner-up spot secured, he turned his sights entirely on the Championship leader, Nikola Tsolov. Applying relentless pressure, Beganovic eventually cleared the Bulgarian using DRS to take control of the race.
Once out front, Beganovic did what any great driver does: he checked out. He gapped the rest of the pack to completely escape the threat of DRS and successfully managed a nerve-wracking final-lap Safety Car restart to seal his second win in a row, following his triumph in the Madrid Feature Race.
Behind him, the podium positions sorted out through pure drama and hard racing. Van Hoepen brought his car home in second place, capitalizing directly on a costly mistake from Tsolov at Turn 16. That error triggered a painful slide down the order for the Campos Racing driver, who ultimately crossed the line in P5.
Meanwhile, Alexander Dunne put on an incredible charge from P10 on the grid to finish third, grabbing crucial points for his title ambitions. The Irishman still faces a 35-point gap to make up, but he will take massive confidence into the weekend as he starts the Friday Feature Race from pole position and Saturday's from second on the grid.
It was a morning to forget for others near the sharp end of the championship. Rafael Camara, sitting second in the Standings, endured a brutal session after colliding with PREMA Racing's Mari Boya on the opening lap. The contact earned Camara a 10-second time penalty, dropping him entirely out of the points. Gabriele Mini also failed to add to his tally, though he holds onto third in the Drivers' Standings as the field looks ahead to Feature Race 1 in Baku.
