A single technical platform coming to Hypercar in 2030
It is finally official: from 2030, the pinnacle of the FIA World Endurance Championship will shift to a single two-wheel-drive platform for the Hypercar category. Announced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, this new path was forged by the FIA, Automobile Club de l’Ouest, and IMSA to harmonize the top tier of endurance racing.
Under these rules, every machine will be rear-wheel-drive and hybrid-powered. Manufacturers can still develop their own chassis or work with a common builder, and while power unit architecture remains open, total output is set to rise by approximately 20kW. It is a bold move to balance freedom of design with strict budget control, ensuring manufacturers keep their unique visual identities while keeping the competition stable for at least five-year homologation cycles.
As championship CEO Frédéric Lequien put it: “Everyone wants to go in the same direction. It’s in the interest of everyone.” The focus now turns to technical working groups to handle the fine-tuning, but the path forward for endurance racing is now set in stone.
