Ai Ogura makes history with maiden victory in Assen
It has been 22 long years since a Japanese rider stood on the top step of a MotoGP podium, but Ai Ogura has finally ended that wait. In a display of pure poise at the Cathedral of Speed, the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider clinched his maiden victory in an absolute thriller of a Tissot Grand Prix of the Netherlands. To make the day even more spectacular for the American outfit, Raul Fernandez crossed the line in second, securing a dream 1-2 finish that will be remembered for a long time.
The drama at the front was relentless. Jorge Martin, representing Aprilia Racing, fought hard throughout the race and ultimately secured P3, a result that puts him at the summit of the World Championship standings. It was a bittersweet day for Aprilia, however, as teammate Marco Bezzecchi suffered a heavy crash at the treacherous Turn 15 on the second lap. He has been taken to the hospital for further checks following his early DNF.
Elsewhere on the track, the racing was as intense as it gets. Pedro Acosta of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing was forced to retire due to severe right-hand discomfort, and Francesco Bagnaia of the Ducati Lenovo Team saw his race come to an end with a technical issue. Meanwhile, Fabio Di Giannantonio of Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team battled his way to P4, narrowly ahead of the impressive Alex Marquez from BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP, after a post-race penalty for Marc Marquez of the Ducati Lenovo Team moved the reigning world champion back to P7, promoting Enea Bastianini of Red Bull KTM Tech3 to P6.
