Aprilia smashes the all-time speed record at Mugello

It is official: we have witnessed a new top speed record in MotoGP. During Saturday morning’s FP2 at the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy, Jorge Martin took his Aprilia Racing machine to a staggering 368.6km/h, which converts to 229mph. Seeing that number flash on the timing screen is simply wild.

This performance eclipses the previous benchmark of 366km/h, which was shared by Brad Binder and Pol Espargaro, both with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. Those records were established at this very same Mugello circuit, with the South African hitting the mark in 2023 and the Spaniard matching it in 2024.

Aprilia Racing Technical Director Fabiano Sterlacchini was clearly buzzing when speaking to Jack Appleyard in the pitlane. He credited the achievement to a synergistic approach to aerodynamic perfection and engine performance. In fact, Sterlacchini is already looking further ahead, noting that 370km/h could be possible with the right wind and a slipstream.
