BMW dominates final practice before Le Mans Hyperpole

BMW has absolutely sent a message to the rest of the field. In the final practice session at La Sarthe, Dries Vanthoor hammered out a 3m23.302s lap in the dying moments to put his machine at the top of the pile. That is a beautiful piece of driving, leaving him 0.423s clear of the Victor Martins-driven Alpine A424.

Will Stevens was a force as well, putting the #12 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA entry in third with a 3m23.816s. It was a wild session overall, with the Genesis Magma Racing squad—a stunning debut effort, this—rounding out the top five thanks to a 3m24.195s from Mathys Jaubert. With the Hyperpole shootout fast approaching, the gaps are razor-thin.

Unfortunately, the session saw its fair share of carnage, particularly in the LMP2 class. There was a significant accident for Horst Felix Felbermayr Jnr at the Porsche Curves, while Daniel Schneider caused a brief red flag after slamming his United Autosports car into the wall at the Ford Chicane. Thankfully, these drivers are looking toward the grid, but the mechanics have a long night ahead.
