Bmw inherits Le Mans pole after Cadillac penalty

It is absolutely wild to see the grid order shift like this right before the start of the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Jack Aitken, driving the #38 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA, had initially pulled off a stunning 3m22.559s lap to secure the top spot by a razor-thin 0.005s margin over Dries Vanthoor in the #15 BMW M Team WRT entry. But after a penalty, the Cadillac has lost that top time, handing pole position to BMW.

In the LMGT3 category, the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage was simply in a league of its own. Mattia Drudi snatched his second consecutive LMGT3 pole at Le Mans, leaving the #21 VISTA AF Corse Ferrari of Alessio Rovera trailing by just under a second. It is a dominant display of consistency from the team.

Down in the LMP2 class, the drama was equally high. Esteban Masson put in a blistering 3m32.885s lap for the #29 Forestier by Panis entry, outpacing the #28 IDEC Sport car driven by Job van Uitert by 0.387s. However, because the #29 carries a grid drop from a penalty issued on Wednesday, the IDEC Sport entry will actually lead the class away from the front when the flag drops.
