Fabio Di Giannantonio sets the pace at Mugello
It was a dream start for the home fans at Mugello as Fabio Di Giannantonio, representing the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, blasted his way to the top of the timesheets in FP1. His 1’46.242 was pure quality, leaving him 0.369s clear of the rest. Meanwhile, the return of Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) was the talk of the paddock, even if he kept things steady to finish 15th as he continues his recovery.
The session saw plenty of action despite the damp start. Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) secured second after a scrappy finish to his session, just ahead of Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) in third. Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3) took fourth for the KTM camp, and it was a solid showing from Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP), who ended up fifth.
Things weren't quite as smooth for championship favorite Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team). Despite leading for long stretches, he had an unfortunate tumble at Turn 1, ultimately settling for eighth. Elsewhere, the field saw Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) in sixth, Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) in seventh, and Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) in ninth, with Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) rounding out the top ten.
