Four hours to go and the Le Mans masterclass is just getting started
The 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is turning into an absolute fever dream. As we enter the final four hours, a mere 10 seconds cover the top four contenders in the Hypercar class. It is a four-way dance between Toyota, BMW, and Cadillac, and frankly, I cannot look away.
Everything changed when a safety car at the three-quarter mark threw the #7 Toyota, the #20 BMW, the #12 Cadillac, and the #8 Toyota into a blender. Earlier, Louis Delétraz was commanding the race for Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA until a drive-through penalty for a slow zone infringement cost them dearly. Meanwhile, the #20 BMW of Robin Frijns looked to have the measure of the field until a late-race lock-up sent him skating through the gravel, dropping him from first to fourth. Now, Norman Nato leads in the #12 Cadillac, with the two Toyotas of Ryō Hirakawa and Kamui Kobayashi breathing down his neck. It is relentless.
In LMGT3, the safety car completely erased a 1h40m lead for the #33 TF Sport Corvette. Nicky Catsburg is hanging on for dear life at the front, but the pressure from the Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin piloted by 'Dudu' Barrichello and the #78 Lexus of Jack Hawksworth is immense. It is a proper fight for survival, and with only four seconds covering the lead trio in the LMP2 class as well, this race is far from decided.
