Goodyear secures its place in LMGT3 until 2029
It is official: Goodyear is going to be the backbone of the LMGT3 category for a long time to come. The tyre manufacturer has signed a multi-year extension that locks them in as the exclusive supplier for the FIA World Endurance Championship through 2029. After two years of proving their worth in this category, they have successfully cleared a rigorous tender process that prioritized everything from safety and cost to the raw consistency required to handle the wild, varying conditions of endurance racing.
This is not just about keeping the status quo. Starting in 2027, we are going to see a new generation of Goodyear Racing Eagle tyres hit the track. The plan is to push sustainable materials into the heat of real-world competition, aiming for a build that is 66 per cent recycled and bio-based. As Xavier Fraipont, Goodyear Racing Vice-President, noted, the goal is to develop a machine—in this case, a tyre—that offers instant confidence and a broad operating window for every type of car.
Whether it is the blistering pace we saw at Spa this year or the endurance tests at Le Mans where teams run for roughly 600km on a single set, the stakes are massive. Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, emphasized that this partnership is about driving innovation while keeping the racing consistent. It is a bold move to try and redefine high-performance racing for a more responsible era, and quite frankly, I cannot wait to see how these new specifications handle the pressure.
