Here is a wild shift in the IMSA paddock: as Motorsport.com reports, Inception Racing is packing up its current machinery and making the jump to Chevrolet for the 2027 IMSA GTD season. The Optimum Motorsport-backed operation will field the #70 Corvette Z06 GT3.R as it embarks on its fifth consecutive full-time campaign in the series. It is a massive pivot for a squad that has built a reputation as one of the premier independent teams on the grid, now linking up with one of the most successful factory support programs in sports car racing.
The crew is keeping its lineup intact for the new era. Brendan Iribe and Frederik Schandorff will handle the full-season driving duties, while Ollie Millroy returns as the third driver specifically for the endurance rounds of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. That trio boasts some serious history together, having scored their first IMSA victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2025 during the six-hour Battle on the Bricks, followed by a season-best third-place finish at VIRginia International Raceway in 2026.
Inception Racing Sporting Director Bas Leinders made it clear how pumped the squad is about the change. "We are extremely excited to be joining the Corvette family for our IMSA campaign," Leinders said, adding that General Motors and Pratt Miller bring an incredible racing pedigree to the table. Corvette Racing Program Manager Andrea Hidalgo welcomed the new addition, noting that Inception stands as one of the leading GTD teams and will strengthen the broader Corvette program next year.
The continuity goes beyond the car. Iribe remains one of the paddock's standout Bronze-rated drivers, having won the prestigious Bob Akin Award in 2023 to secure an automatic invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he grabbed the LMGT3 pole position in 2024. Leinders praised Iribe's work ethic, noting that he balances a daily business career with racing at this level. Schandorff pointed out how vital Iribe's speed has become in modern GTD competition, especially during long green-flag stretches without safety cars.
Millroy's presence is equally foundational to the team. Leinders explained that without Millroy, the organization would not exist in its current form, having previously helped develop top-tier talent like Ben Barnicoat and Jordan Pepper before settling into this tight-knit trio. Since making its initial IMSA debut at the 2021 Petit Le Mans, the squad has evolved from a part-time entrant into a permanent fixture of the championship, and now they get to write their next chapter backed by Chevrolet.
