What a machine. What a lap. For the fifth time in 2026, Izan Guevara of the BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 squad will launch from the front of the grid after laying down an incredible 1:31.963. It was an absolute beauty of a run, marking the very first time a Moto2 machine has dipped into the 1:31 bracket on this circuit.
That breathless 15-minute Qualifying 2 session on Lombok was a wild rollercoaster. Alex Escrig, riding for the KLINT Racing Team, held provisional pole for much of the action and came agonizingly close, ending up just 0.098s behind Guevara to take P2. Meanwhile, Colombia's David Alonso of the CFMOTO Power Electronics Aspar Team left his charge right until the dying moments to vault up onto the front row.
Alonso's late push bumped teammate Daniel Holgado right off the front row, leaving the #96 rider to start from P4. Right behind them, Daniel Muñoz of the Italtrans Racing Team secured P5, while the rider sitting third in the championship, Ivan Ortola of the QJMOTOR – JP Financial – MSI outfit, slotted into P6.
Further back, Joe Roberts of the OnlyFans American Racing Team and the recently injured Collin Veijer representing Red Bull KTM Ajo both did well to convert their progress from Q1 into P7 and P8. Japanese GP podium finisher Tony Arbolino of REDS Fantic Racing rounds out that third row alongside the American and the Dutchman.
Then comes the biggest talking point of the afternoon. Manuel Gonzalez of the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP team endured a deeply disappointing session and will be forced to fight from P10 on the grid. The World Championship leader wound up 0.413s slower than his chief title rival, leaving him under immense pressure to defend his fragile 10.5-point advantage when the lights go out on Sunday.
