As Motorsport.com reports, Jorge Martin firmly denied that his aggressive mid-race overtake on Marc Marquez was driven by revenge after an opening-lap clash at the Red Bull Ring dropped the Aprilia Racing Team rider down the order.
Joint championship leaders Martin and Marquez locked out the front row for Saturday's sprint, but the race immediately exploded into drama. The factory Aprilia rider ran deep at the exit of Turn 1, opening the door for the Ducati Team reigning champion into the chicane. The pair collided in the right-left sequence, sending Martin off the track and tumbling to eighth place while Marquez inherited the lead.
What followed was an absolute masterclass in recovery. The 28-year-old carved through the pack, picking off five riders by the halfway mark to hunt down Marquez. On lap 8, the Spaniard forced the Ducati wide at Turn 1 to seize second place. When Pedro Acosta crashed out of the lead with three laps remaining, Martin inherited the victory to grab a three-point lead in the standings.
Reflecting on the initial contact, Martin explained that he simply tried to hold his ground against a known threat. "I knew he was going to try, as he always does," he said. "I was ready for everything and I was able to stay on the bike, so this is good." He insisted his later move on the reigning champion was purely tactical rather than personal. Overtaking a rider of that caliber requires absolute firmness, he noted, because a soft pass only invites an immediate counterattack.
When questioned by Jorge Lorenzo on whether early-race anger fueled his charge, Martin rejected the premise. Instead, he pointed to his weekend preparation and superior pace. Even after dropping to eighth, he trusted his speed and cornering ability to methodically pick off rivals including Alex Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi.
Calling the performance perhaps his best version in MotoGP, the Aprilia rider acknowledged that the weekend unlocked a familiar hunger. It was a stunning statement ride at Spielberg, proving that his racecraft and raw speed remain entirely unmatched when everything clicks into place.
