Jorge Martin takes stunning pole position at Assen
It was a session for the history books at Assen. Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing snatched pole position with a brilliant 1:30.812, leaving the field breathless. He bested Ai Ogura of the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team by a razor-thin margin of just 0.011 seconds. It is a massive result for Aprilia, marking their first-ever top-four lockout on the MotoGP grid, with championship leader Marco Bezzecchi rounding out the front row.
The drama at the top was intense. Raul Fernandez of the SuperFile Trackhouse MotoGP Team looked to have secured provisional pole with a stunner of a lap, but a track limits infraction saw it cruelly scrubbed, relegating him to fourth. Meanwhile, Pedro Acosta’s session ended in heartbreak as his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machine suffered a technical issue, forcing him to settle for eighth on the grid.
Francesco Bagnaia of the Ducati Lenovo Team managed a fifth-place start, successfully fending off Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marc Marquez, who both represent the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. With the Aprilia machines clearly finding their rhythm, the competition for the upcoming Tissot Sprint and Sunday's GP looks absolutely electric.
