Marc Marquez commands FP1 at Brno despite late tumble
Marc Marquez of the Ducati Lenovo Team is looking like a man possessed, once again planting his machine at the top of the timesheets with a 1’53.303 at Brno. He had the field covered by two tenths, even after a late, sharp fall at Turn 7 brought his session to an early conclusion. Thankfully, the reigning World Champion was perfectly fine.
It was a chaotic opening to the weekend, with the marshals kept busy by early crashes for Pedro Acosta, Maverick Viñales, and Diogo Moreira. While Fabio Quartararo of the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP managed a stunning second place, the rest of the field was left scrambling. For championship leader Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia Racing, the morning was nothing short of a disaster; he finished 16th after an off-track excursion at Turn 13 that nearly ruined his day.
Further down the order, it was a battle of manufacturers with Raul Fernandez and Joan Mir filling out the top four, while Ai Ogura claimed a solid fifth for the Trackhouse MotoGP Team. It was a tough morning for Jorge Martin, who suffered a technical problem during a practice start, and Alex Marquez, who managed 18th in his return from injury, though he remained just 1.2s off his brother’s blistering pace.
