As The Race reports, Marc Marquez faced a difficult Austrian Grand Prix where numerous front brake troubles dragged him down to a fifth-place finish. Starting from second on the grid, the Ducati rider immediately slipped to fourth on the opening lap. Things worsened further when he ran wide at Turn 1 while pursuing Ai Ogura, dropping all the way back to seventh position.
The root of the chaos was an unpredictable front brake lever point that plagued the first half of the grand prix. Marquez detailed how the lever behaved differently at every single corner, completely eroding his confidence. When he made his major mistake at Turn 1, the lever simply felt empty with nothing there, forcing him to run extraordinarily wide.
At one stage, the situation became so critical that he genuinely thought he could not continue. Thankfully, the brakes miraculously began functioning normally from one lap to the next, allowing him to claw back some positions and increase his pace, though the recovery came too late for a major result. Marquez pointed out that the silver lining is the issue is fully visible on data, giving the team something concrete to analyze for the future.
Brake supplier Brembo had previously worked on fixing issues riders faced between Turns 7 and 9, and Marquez confirmed he experienced no shaking problems this time around. Still, the erratic braking forced him to overthink every single braking zone, costing him precious time in the fight for the podium. He firmly believed a battle for second place with title rivals Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi was on the cards before he was left feeling fortunate just to salvage a top-five finish.
The grand prix result dealt another blow to his championship campaign, causing him to drop an additional nine points behind Martin in the riders' standings. Combined with conceding three points by finishing second to the Aprilia rider in the sprint race, he left the weekend trailing by 12 points. Marquez admitted that while the absolute maximum potential on the day was second or third, the mechanical gremlins ultimately sealed a fifth-place reality.
