Marc Marquez reaches a century at Balaton Park
It is difficult to process, but Marc Marquez has done it again. In a performance that felt like a throwback to his most dominant years, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider claimed his 100th career GP victory at Balaton Park. It was not a simple procession, though. Marquez had to engage in a spectacular, paint-trading duel with Pedro Acosta, who fought valiantly for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing but ultimately had to settle for second. Marquez himself admitted the win was a surprise, noting that the layout of the track—heavy on left corners—provided the respite he needed to manage his effort.
Francesco Bagnaia rounded out the podium for Ducati Lenovo Team, though he was honest about his limitations, admitting he still needs to study Marquez’s technique on the tighter sections of the circuit. While the front of the pack provided a masterclass in aggression, the start was marred by a massive incident at Turn 1. Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing was at the center of a pile-up that also involved Marco Bezzecchi, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Raul Fernandez, and Fermin Aldeguer. Martin has been handed a double Long Lap penalty for the next Grand Prix, with Aprilia’s Massimo Rivola calling the incident difficult to digest.
Despite the drama elsewhere, the weekend proved surprisingly fruitful for Honda. Luca Marini, riding for Honda HRC Castrol, and Diogo Moreira of Pro Honda LCR put in impressive shifts to finish fifth and sixth, respectively. It was a weekend of extreme highs and lows, but as Marquez put it, his comeback story is far from over.
